Concept and Brief Description
The three branches of government - Executive, Legislative, and Judicial – play a vital role in creating equal employment opportunity for all citizens of the United States regardless of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.
Emotional Hook
The Civil Rights Act was not created until 1964, which is not that long ago. Most of our parents grew up in a time where one was not judged by their skill or merit, but instead by the color of their skin or gender. Our society was functioning in a way that only white males could be hired or succeed.
Key Points
Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII) resulted from the civil rights movement of the 1960’s. It states than an employer cannot hire, fire, or discriminate against someone based on Race, Religion, Color, Sex, or National Origin. In addition, an employer may not limit, segregate, or classify someone based on any one of these criteria either.
Facilitative Question
Are there any conditions under which race, religion, color, sex, or national origin it be acceptable to deny someone a position or be let go from a position?
